Come join our Explorer Party today in celebration of our new El Dorado Mounds IPA.  This is our first adventure with a single hopped El Dorado IPA.  Mystery Scavenger Hunt and prizes for our best dressed explorers (I'd brush up on your Indiana Mounds history if I were you!).  As a product of the 80s Indiana Jones is near and dear to my heart.  Remember we have a partnership with Squealers so you can enjoy great barbecue while drinking some tasty beverages!

22 Years ... A random encounter ... and a Brewery?

22 years ago Emily and I were supposed to be hiking across the AT in the Smokey Mountains.  We got snowed out and headed down to the campground on the North Carolina side.  About 1 hour later a black GMC Jimmy pulls up and sat just in front of our camp site.  Should I mention we were the only ones in the campground.  I was reaching for a suitable weapon when all the sudden Dave's head popped and said .... MMMAAAATTTT????  Turns out Dave and Val had headed down to Gatlinburg to get married.  By pure chance and some bad weather we had run into each other and got to spend the weekend enjoying the wedding and celebration (we were under 21 so the celebration was a bit of a challenge).  So how did the story end.  Well tonight Dave and Val celebrate their 22 year anniversary and Dave and I own a brewery together.  So pretty awesome.  (Also Emily eventually married me despite having to hike down in 3 ft of snow on the AT).  Gotta love the stories @WabashBrewing!

As all brewers know most of the work is in cleaning and this weekend was keg cleaning ... wash, rinse, and repeat!!!  The good news is we are now open Sundays and with the warmer weather and sun the patio feels great with a Sunlight over Citra.  Start getting your explorer outfits ready.  We are going to have an adventure themed day when we crack the keg on our Lost City of Gold El Dorado MOUNDS IPA.  We dry hoped it yesterday!!!  We will have an indoor scavenger hunt and if you can open the mystery box at the end you can win a cool prize.  CHEERS!

Two of our awesome volunteers decided to come in and learn about the back of the house operations.  Alyssa is starting her journey into homebrewing and wanted to see the 3BBL in action.  Jason, a long time patron and one of the newer members of our volunteer staff, decided to join as well.  Today we are brewing an El Dorado IPA.  New hop for us at Wabash Brewing.  Were going to name this one the Mounds IPA, because I'm pretty sure there is a lost city of gold underneath them!

Had the opportunity to sit down with Richard Paige at Wabash College for his podcast - Wabash on My Mind.  Was a great conversation to celebrate being open for six years.  Interested in how we have managed through COVID, or how we approach business then have a listen.  Link is below:

You have to celebrate when you get an awesome new neighbor.  Manny (a fellow Pike Grad - Go Red Devils) opened up a new business next door.  To celebrate we brewed him a lighter beer that was easy drinking, super refreshing and a great entry to the world of craft beer.  We utilize corn in the mash as well as lime zest during secondary fermentation.  Come in to Manny's to get a remote starter, radio, or alarm installed in your car and while waiting enjoy a beer at Wabash Brewing.  Cheers!

2 Classic Batches for our 6 Year Celebration

Today were doing 2 batches in celebration of being open for over 6 Years!  The first is Cannonball Pale Ale.  This is a Simcoe based beer and was one of our first 4 beers brewed on our commercial system.  A favorite of Mike the Volunteer!  Following that is a batch of "Not our Porter".  Actually it is our Porter.  To be honest we need a name refresh on this one.  We like to tie the names of our beers to the Wabash River or State of Indiana in some way.  So if you have any great ideas send them our way.  Remember today while were brewing were offering 7$ growler fills and 4$ pints all day long!  Cheers!

Firing up the 10 Gallon System

You don't always have the energy to fire up the full system.  Especially on a Friday evening when you have had a long work week!  So what do you do?  You pull out the trusty 10 gallon R&D batch.  In preparation for a full-scale 3BBL Headwaters Hefeweizen we needed to propagate up a yeast strain.  What better way then making a 10 gallon batch of beer.  In classic style we brewed up The Unlauterable, the original Dunkelweizen from a few years back.  Special thanks to Mark and Snigdha for helping brew and the Indy based Biosynthetic Team for a fun Friday evening.  Oh and as usual Dave kept everyone full with his awesome grill skills.
